NTAGALI: Two Years Since Kazimba Suspended Him From Church Work Over Adultery

Two years ago, former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Stanley Ntagali was suspended from his priestly duties over adultery charges. Ntagali was accused of bonking another man’s wife to cabbages and even sired a kid with her.

According to a letter addressed to Ntagali, the retired bishop was accused of being in extra-marital affairs with a married woman which himself acknowledged but attributed to Satan who tempted him.

In same letter which was also addressed to the Anglican Bishops under the Global Anglican Future Conference (GFCON), Ntagali is said to have betrayed his lord and Savior, his Wife Beatrice who he married in 1978 and their marital vows as well the faith of the Christians who looked up to him.

“This adultery is a grievous betrayal on many levels Retired Archbishop Ntagala has betrayed his lord and Savior, his wife and their marriage vows, as well as the faith of many Ugandans and global Christians who looked up to him to live the faith he proclaimed”-the letter sent to the Anglican Bishops under the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) reads in part.

Kazimba added that the Church of Uganda has approximately 13 million members, all of whom have ‘sinned and fallen short of the glory of God,’ as the Bible read in Romans 3:23 but the Church has to hold it’s leaders more accountable to the standards that they are called to uphold.

Kazimba further said in the letter that he had informed Ntagali about the suspension and that Ntagali will not be allowed to perform any priestly duties such as preaching, function sacramental or represent the Church of Uganda in any way until further notice.

He also urged the Church of Uganda to send prayers to the spouses in both relationships, for repentance and healing in those who have committed adultery and for justice and forgiveness to flow.

“This is not a time for us to gossip. This is a time for repentance; a time for prayer; a time to examine our own sin and failings in humility; and a time to make all our relarionships right before God,”-Kazimba’s letter further read.

He however added that the Church of Uganda will not shy away from their commitment to uphold the moral standards of marriage as a lifelong, exclusive union between one man and one woman while condemining adultery as immoral as homosexuality.

“No one is above God’s law. We call on all who have fallen short of this standard to go before the lord in prayer and confess your sin, repent of your ways, and make restitution to those you have hurt,”-Kazimba added.

Ntagali now 67 was the 8th Archishop of the Church of Uganda before handing over to Kazimba on March 1,2020 after clocking the retirement age.

It later came to light that Ntagali had chewed Judith Tukamuhabwa the wife of Rev Tugumehabwa who is a lecturer at Bishop Burham in Kabale district. However, unlike Teddy Bugingo who cried all over media when her husband cheated and dumped her for a one Suzan Makula, Mama Beatrice Ntagali played it cool and never blasted her husband and it was later revealed that she’s the one who introduced Judith to Ntagala for counseling after her [Judith] pleaded several times.

It also later came to light that Reverend Christopher had also snatched Judith from another man in Man in Mbarara before he also got the same on his side in the same currency when Ntagali snatched him after their wedding and managed to impregnant her even before the owner [Christopher] could.

Later in his intention to sue, Reverend Tugumehabwa accused Ntagali of encouraging his wife Judith Tukamuhabwa to seek for divorce before the Kabale Magistrates’ court on claims of cruelty which he said was instigated after Ntagali slept and impregnated his wife before even him [the owner] could.

He gave Ntagali only 15 days with in which to pay him Shs500m in damages and Shs30m as the legal fees or else prepare to face the fierce battle in the courts of law. However Ntagali would later apologize and the two buried their hatchet and life move on.

According to Reuters, Article 154 clause 2 of the penal code was trashed 16 years ago in 2007 after a group of female lawyers filed a legal challenge against the Attorney General sighting that “Section 154 of the Penal Code Act which penalizes married women on the offence of adultery is discriminatory in a way that men were meant to pay only UGX600 while women faced jail not exceeding 6 months.

The Bare Foot Lawyers said that the scrapping of the said article from the penal code, rendered adultery no longer criminal and no changes have been done to that effect.

“The provision for adultery in the Penal Code Act of Uganda section 154. But due to a decision of the Courts, it’s no longer a criminal offence in Uganda and so it is wrong should you find your partner committing adultery to have him or her arrested by police since it’s not a criminal offence”
