President Museveni has issued a strong warning against corruption particularly in government programs aimed at improving household incomes.

Addressing thousands of jubilant supporters at Lango College Grounds on Saturday, Museveni emphasized the need to ensure that government poverty alleviation programs, particularly the Parish Development Model (PDM), reach all intended beneficiaries. He called on local leaders to adopt a more data-driven and transparent approach.

“Don’t be kind to corrupt people. Nobody should deduct any money from your PDM funds—there is enough space in Luzira,” he said.

“Leaders should not just talk generally but be specific—parish by parish—on how many households have benefited.”

Museveni further tasked Members of Parliament with monitoring the distribution of Emyooga funds, especially among youth at the constituency level, to ensure equitable access and measurable impact. He stressed that eliminating corruption is essential for Uganda’s economic transformation, alongside maintaining peace and stability.

In a bid to boost agricultural productivity, Museveni announced plans for a new government initiative to distribute free coffee seedlings and fruit plants. He revealed that government land, including his property in Baralegi, would be used to support the program.

Museveni further thanked the people of Lango and Ugandans at large for their continued trust in his leadership, attributing the country’s unity to divine guidance.

“I thank God for the unity the people of Uganda have continued to show us. It’s God who has kept us united,” he said.

Museveni commended the region for what he described as “wise and massive” participation in the elections, urging leaders to now shift focus from campaigns to service delivery.

The event also featured remarks from several senior government officials who highlighted progress in the region.

Lira City Woman Member of Parliament Jane Ruth Aceng welcomed the President and credited his leadership for significant improvements in healthcare and infrastructure.

She cited advancements such as the availability of specialized medical services—including heart and brain surgeries, as well as dialysis—at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

“I’m very happy to note that these services are now available locally,” she said.

Aceng also applauded the government’s long-term development strategies, including PDM and Emyooga, and noted that Museveni secured 80.4% of the vote in the region.

Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua echoed similar sentiments, thanking both God and the people of Lango for what he described as a “triumphant victory.”

Meanwhile, Joseph Ocwet praised the administration’s record on infrastructure, education, and security, attributing the region’s support to tangible development gains.

“There is a lot of development—the roads, education system, and healthcare have exceeded expectations,” he said.

Prior to the main event, President Museveni paid tribute to the late Anthony Ocwet and his wife, Carolyn Akullu Ocwet, by laying a wreath in their memory.

The celebration drew a wide array of attendees, including ministers, religious and cultural leaders, and NRM officials, underscoring the political and symbolic importance of the occasion.
