This was according to the NRM Regional Vice Chairperson of Northern Uganda, who is also the Ajuri County MP and government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua.

Obua presented the figures to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in Lira City on Saturday during the poll victory party.

The party, held at Lango College playgrounds, Obua presented the statistics for Northern Uganda.

He told the President that out of 7.9 million votes countrywide, accounting for 71.65%, the Lango sub-region contributed 538,044 votes, representing 84.48%.

On top of that, Northern Uganda, which covers three sub-regions: Lango, Acholi, and West Nile, contributed over 1,411,561 votes.

GCW Obua added that since the NRM government took power in 1986, the Lango sub-region has been achieving political quality and national ranking. He cited that in 1996, President Museveni got 61,608 votes (17.3%), followed by 76,929 votes in 2001 (20.7%).

In 2006, Lango recorded its lowest result with only 45,012 votes, 13.3%. Again in 2011, Museveni got 243,725 votes in Lango, 56.4%. In 2016, the region produced 291,295 votes, over 50.7%, while in 2021, the number increased to 387,939 votes, 65.7%.

In 2026, Lango produced a total of 538,044 votes, about 84.48%.

Lastly, he cited that out of 18 different sub-regions in the country, the President has returned to only four. However, out of those four, Museveni has returned to three sub-regions: Lango, Acholi, and West Nile.

This shows love, unity, and prosperity. He appreciated all the youths, women, men, the NRM Secretariat, security personnel, including the Office of the National Chair, for making this victory possible.

Lira City Woman Member of Parliament, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, who is also Minister of Health and NRM chairperson for Lira City, briefed the President that the City alone contributed 50,458 votes (representing 80.4%) out of the total votes cast of 62,631.

Minister Aceng used that platform to request that the President consider this victory by appointing a number of people from Lango to different positions, such as ambassadors, ministers, RDCs, permanent secretaries, commissioners, among others.

She also told the President to consider other areas for development, such as Lira Airport to boost trade among the business community.

The MP acknowledged some development already in place, including Lira Regional Referral Hospital, the Summit Project in Lira City, the rehabilitation of the Soroti–Lira–Kamdini road, and the construction of the Apac via Lira to Acholi road, now under construction, but noted that Lango still needs more in the incoming government.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Joseph Ocwet, who served as Director General of the External Security Organization, gave his remarks and appreciated President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his initiative to come and celebrate this milestone victory with them under the theme of thanksgiving prayers after Lango voted massively for the NRM government.

Ambassador Ocwet said that when the UPC government fell, many people were killed. It was not until January 26, 1986, that Lango started experiencing peace again, when President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni took over power.

Unfortunately, he said, Lango went through a lot again because of rebellions like Alice Lakwena, the LRA under Joseph Kony, and other situations that made the Lango people unhappy and suffering. It took time for the people of Lango to appreciate the leadership of President Museveni.

He additionally appreciated the current peace and leadership of the NRM government, applauding Museveni for improving the education system, health facilities, and roads. All these great achievements have exceeded expectations, which is why the people of Lango have voted for Museveni in the highest percentage, Ambassador Ocwet said.

President Museveni thanked Lango for the massive votes they granted him in the recent general election. He also thanked the people of Uganda for continuing to show unity. He said that as a government, there are things to be done in the next five years.

President Museveni pledged that the first thing the government will ensure is that all households that have not yet benefited from the PDM receive support in the next five years.

Museveni cautioned leaders not to take things generally but to be specific, ensuring that parish by parish benefits from PDM money to help many households get out of poverty.

He added that the government will start distributing free coffee seedlings and fruit seeds. Regarding PDM money, the President told the public to let beneficiaries use the money according to their own choices.

Museveni encouraged people to join hands in fighting corruption, adding that Luzira Prison is now ready for PDM thieves.
