Fuel Prices Climb in Kampala as Residents Report Sharp Increases
Fuel prices in Kampala are on the rise, with pump rates inching upward across the city and its surrounding neighborhoods. Despite recent calls for calm from government officials, motorists and residents are feeling the pinch as the cost of fuel continues to surge.
As of April 26, 2026, reports from various city outlets paint a picture of mounting prices. According to journalist Blanshe Musinguzi, Petrocity in Ntinda is selling fuel at Shs 7,000 per litre. “My mother told me that in my village, fuel is now at Shs 10,000. Nothing like bargaining to get the price down by 100 shillings. UNOC, where are you, in Kenzo’s voice,” Musinguzi shared.
Journalist Walter Mwesigye also noted that fuel at Gaz in Kisaasi is retailing at Shs 6,000 per litre. Earlier reports indicated that some upcountry areas like Karamoja have seen prices soar as high as Shs 20,000 per litre.
With prices creeping up and no clear end in sight, many Ugandans are anxiously watching the pumps, hoping for relief and answers from fuel suppliers and government agencies.
