Residents of Amolatar District are in shock following the killing of a Senior One student who was stabbed during a fight at a disco just a day after returning home for first term holidays.

Kenneth Odon, a student of Kangai Senior Secondary School in Dokolo District and a resident of Abedober Village in Arwotcek Parish, Arwotcek Sub-county, was stabbed to death by unidentified attackers on May 3, 2026 at around 2:00 a.m.

His friend, Tonny Okot, 21, was seriously injured in the attack and is receiving treatment at Amolatar Health Centre IV.

Moses Aboko, the LC3 chairperson-elect of Arwotcek Sub-county, told Monitor that he was among the first responders at the scene.

“The incident happened near my home so when I heard an alarm I rushed to the scene and found one person already dead and another crying for help,” Aboko said.

He added that police from Amolatar Central Police Station responded and documented the scene.

“I called police who rushed quickly and helped took both the dead body and the survivor to Amolatar Health Centre IV,” he said.

Sam Nyang, the grandfather of the deceased, described his grandson as disciplined but said he had been influenced by peers.

“My grandson has been a good person but the only challenge is that there are some boys who were his friends and I think they misled him,” Nyang said.

Amolatar District Deputy Resident District Commissioner Magwar Obonyo said five suspects had been arrested to assist with investigations.

“The joint security at the district went to the scene and we picked some youth to help police with investigations,” Obonyo said.

He cautioned parents against allowing children to attend night discos.

“I would like to caution parents against allowing their children to go for disco. They should stay at home with their children. The local leaders should also regulate night disco because it compromise the security of the people,” he added.

A total of 4,238 homicide cases were reported to police in 2025, representing 2.2 percent of the total reported crimes during the year, compared to 4,329 cases reported in 2024, reflecting a 2.1 percent decrease.
