Ministry of Health says this is a phased rollout starting with high-burden districts adding that Uganda only received 19,200 doses in Feb 2026.
The Ministry expects a total of 94,560 doses which is sufficient only for about 47,000 people. However, the country requires more than 3million doses.
“The 19,200 doses have been distributed to high-burden and high-incidence districts based on need,” says MOH in a Wednesday, May 6, 2026 statement adding the Ministry is currently prioritizing places where 100+ people get HIV daily.
Phase 1 started in April 2026 with just 103 health facilities; this will be expanded to 300 facilities by December 2026.
The Ministry expects more doses in September 2026 advising those who can’t access Lenacapavir to use the existing PrEP options – Daily oral PrEP, 2-month Cabotegravir injection, and dapivirine ring available at the health centers.
The Ministry promises to increase coverage as soon as supply increases through 2026/27.
