The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Director for Mobilisation Rosemary Sseninde has criticised those celebrating the death of Moses Karangwa, Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Duties, who died in a road crash on Sunday night.

Speaking at a requiem mass for Karangwa at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Kayunga Town on Wednesday, Sseninde said the deceased, like everyone else, was human and bound to make mistakes.

“In our culture it’s not morally right to celebrate one’s death. I ask you to give late Karangwa’s family a chance to mourn him. If there is anyone who has never made a mistake, let them be the one to throw stones at Karangwa,” she said.

“You should know that we are all going to die, it’s only that he has died before us.”

The former Wakiso District Woman MP said she first met Karangwa during the 2021 LC5 by-election, where he worked hard to ensure the NRM candidate won.

State Minister for Finance Amos Lugolobi echoed her remarks, urging Ugandans to stop celebrating people’s deaths.

“You get surprised to hear someone in America who doesn’t even know Karangwa saying he was a bad man. We should be disciplined,” he advised.

In a speech read by Sseninde on behalf of NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, the party described Karangwa’s death as shocking and said it had lost a “great mobiliser”. Todwong sent Shs10 million in condolence.

Jacklyn Birungi, Karangwa’s daughter, said her father never held grudges, despite attacks against him.

“Even with attacks on him by people, her father never got annoyed and kept on extending financial assistance to anyone who was in need. He had no permanent enemies and never kept grudges with anyone,” she said.

Karangwa’s younger brother, Gustine Tumwine, said his brother’s outspoken support for NRM often annoyed opponents.

In his sermon, Rev Fr. Emmanuel Walakira the parish priest of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, hailed the deceased for his love for the Catholic faith and the parish.

Because he loved hos God, Rev Fr. Walakira said Karangwa contributed alot towards many church projects.

Kayunga District Woman MP Nakwedde also attended the mass.
