Musasizi Raises Alarm Over Corruption in District Service Commissions
Outgoing Minister of Finance for General Duties Henry Musasizi has warned against corruption in local government institutions, citing alleged bribery in district service commissions and irregularities in procurement processes.
Musasizi made the remarks on Friday while addressing councillors during the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected Rubanda District leaders at Rubanda Town Council headquarters. The event also saw Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba sworn in for a new term in office.
The minister cited the case of a teacher identified as Anthony, who was allegedly asked to pay Shs4 million in exchange for placement on the government payroll but never secured the job.
“I want to condemn this practice. Public jobs must be awarded on merit,” Musasizi said, warning that those involved in corrupt activities would face consequences.
Musasizi also raised concerns about corruption in public procurement, accusing some district officials of repeatedly awarding contracts to companies known for delivering substandard work.
“I urge councillors and district leaders to remain vigilant and uphold integrity in public service delivery and procurement,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament Evelyne Ninsiima Kikafunda pledged to work with leaders across the district to improve service delivery and accelerate development.
She cautioned against political divisions and commended residents for rejecting propaganda, misinformation, hatred and divisive politics in favour of development-oriented leadership.
