The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has called on Muslims to prioritise self-reliance and collective responsibility in funding Islamic development projects, as the Shs3.5 billion Nakaloke Central Mosque in Mbale City reaches 40 percent completion with renewed fundraising support.

The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has called upon Muslims across the country to embrace self-reliance and actively support the development of Islamic projects instead of depending on foreign donors.

Mubaje made the remarks while presiding over Juma prayers at Nakaloke Central Mosque in Mbale City, a multi-storeyed structure currently under construction in the city’s Northern Division.

He was received by hundreds of Muslim faithful, students from various institutions, religious leaders, local government officials and dignitaries from across the Eastern Region.

Addressing the congregation, Mubaje commended Muslims for the financial support already extended towards the mosque project and urged continued contributions to ensure its completion.

“We implore all Muslims to contribute funds, however small the amount may be. Allah will bless you. Do not wait for others to do it for you,” he said.

The Mufti reminded worshippers that righteousness is achieved through sacrifice for the sake of Allah, citing Islamic teachings that encourage believers to give towards the construction of mosques as an act of lasting reward.

He praised the Muslim community for demonstrating that local resources can be mobilised to support major religious infrastructure, saying progress on the Nakaloke Central Mosque proves that communities can finance their own development projects.

Mubaje specifically commended Haj Abdu-Karim Kalisa, Executive Director of Salam TV and chief mobiliser of the project, alongside other fundraising teams, for their efforts in rallying support from both the Muslim community and national leaders.

“The project has reached about 40 percent completion because of your dedication and support. We encourage you to continue mobilising resources so that this mosque can be completed,” he said.

During the event, the Mufti also unveiled the UMSC Digital 360 Management System, designed to improve transparency and efficiency in the collection and management of funds for Islamic projects and activities.

In a show of support, Mubaje donated 100 bags of cement and pledged that the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) would provide iron bars to aid the next phase of construction.

Presenting a progress report, Haj Abdu-Karim Kalisa said the mosque project is estimated to cost Shs3.5 billion, with Shs1.2 billion already raised.

He added that cash contributions and pledges collected during the event amounted to Shs53 million, further boosting momentum toward completion of the landmark structure in Mbale City.

The Nakaloke Central Mosque remains one of the major ongoing Islamic infrastructure projects in eastern Uganda, drawing support from both local and national-level contributors.
