Uganda Airlines Revenue Jumps to $116.2 Million
Uganda Airlines has recorded a sharp increase in revenue, rising from $10.3 million in the 2019/20 financial year to $116.2 million in 2024/25, according to the Ministry of Works and Transport. The ministry said the performance reflects a compound annual growth rate of 62.4 percent.
The disclosure came on Tuesday after Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama met the airline’s top leadership, led by Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake, who briefed him on the national carrier’s current status and growth outlook. Ministry spokesperson Susan Kataike said the airline has carried more than 1.7 million passengers in the past six years and now serves 16 destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
Kataike added that Uganda Airlines’ fleet is expected to grow to 16 aircraft by the 2030s, with Boeing 787 Dreamliners already on order. She also said the carrier plans to launch new routes to Accra and Kigali soon.
The developments come less than six months after President Museveni appointed former Ethiopian Airlines CEO Girma Wake as consultant and acting executive director to help address management challenges at the airline. His appointment followed the exit of Jennifer Bamuturaki, whose tenure was marked by losses and allegations of misconduct, prompting investigations by the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
