The summer transfer window has slammed shut with Manchester United enduring a quiet deadline day. Michael Carrick had been hopeful of securing some last-minute additions, but he was left empty-handed. Left-back was one position United were keen to address. However, having failed to pursue Newcastle's Lewis Hall, their options were severely limited on deadline day.
Racing Santander's Jorge Salinas had been on United's radar, but despite his proposed switch to Atletico Madrid collapsing, the Red Devils opted against activating his £14million release clause. They also opted not to pursue a move for Barcelona's Alejandro Balde. United enquired about Manchester City's Rayan Ait-Nouri after his agent approached the club but City made it clear the Algerian was going nowhere.

Leicester's Louis Page was another target United had been working hard to secure, yet that deal also fell apart because of a gap in valuations. A temporary exit for Chido Obi remains a possibility, with clubs in the Netherlands and Denmark circling. But young left-back Harry Amass has stayed put and could get minutes under Carrick until January.
The window for Dutch and Danish clubs does not close until today (Wednesday, September 2). The window for Scottish Premiership clubs is open until tomorrow (Thursday) while Turkish and Portuguese outfits have until Friday to get their business done. The Saudi Pro League window shuts on Sunday.
Despite a disappointing deadline day, United still managed to conduct a considerable amount of business throughout the summer. Express Sport brings you a full rundown of all the arrivals at and departures from Old Trafford...
