Works Minister Orders Return of Processed Land Titles by November 30

The Minister of Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, has directed the ministry's Land Acquisition Division to return all processed land titles to their respective owners by 30 November, in a move aimed at addressing delays that have slowed the implementation of government infrastructure projects.

The directive followed a meeting with officials from the Land Acquisition Division, during which the minister reviewed concerns surrounding land acquisition delays, customer service and engagement with Project Affected Persons (PAPs).

"I directed the team to improve responsiveness and ensure that all processed land titles are returned to their owners by 30 November," Byamukama said.

The minister also reaffirmed that no civil works contract should commence before at least 50 per cent of the required land has been acquired, saying the measure is intended to minimise project disruptions and ensure contractors have adequate access to construction sites.

Byamukama said the ministry will continue addressing operational bottlenecks while strengthening accountability, professionalism and efficiency within the Land Acquisition Division to improve the timely delivery of government infrastructure projects.
