Five Arrested Over Bunamwaya Mobile Money Robbery, Linked to Kampala Break-ins

Police have arrested five suspects over an aggravated robbery at a mobile money outlet in Bunamwaya, Wakiso District, with preliminary investigations linking them to a series of break-ins across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Police at Katwe have arrested five suspects in connection with an aggravated robbery at a mobile money outlet in Bunamwaya Division, Wakiso District, and a series of related break-ins across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

The robbery was reported on July 6, 2026, after the suspects allegedly broke into a mobile money outlet in Bunamwaya and stole an unspecified amount of money, according to police.

The suspects were arrested following a tip-off from members of the public who reportedly spotted them in Nabitale near the market.

They have been identified as Eddie Mwanguzi, Sharif Katongole, Abdallah Kiyinji and Faizo Kato, while police have not yet disclosed the identity of the fifth suspect.

During a search of the suspects' residences, police recovered two pangas believed to have been used during the robberies. Officers also impounded two vehicles allegedly used in the commission of the crimes.

Police spokespersons said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are linked to other criminal incidents, including a robbery in Seta on July 3, where they allegedly broke into a boutique and stole clothes.

The group is also being investigated over a suspected break-in at a money lending office along Salama Road.

"Investigations are still ongoing, and efforts to have other suspects arrested are still ongoing," police said.

The suspects remain in custody and are expected to be taken to court once investigations are concluded.

Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing information that could help security agencies track down other suspects linked to the robberies.

"We call upon the public to remain vigilant as we are doing everything within our means to ensure that Kampala is safe," police said.
