The Luwero-Kiwoko-Butalangu road which is 29.7Km is a 93billion shillion road project contracted to Dott Services limited. The project aimed at upgrading the route from gravel to paved standard.
Construction work was launched on June 9, 2023 and was initially expected to take 24 months. However, as of recent reports progress had reached the 50% mark with a revised completion deadline targeted for August 16, 2026.
The road’s construction delays have been heavily criticized by both local leaders and residents due to the negative impact on the movement of goods and services and the dust they have endured during the dry seasons like this one.
Taking to his social media pages, Honorable Denis Sekabira the MP for Katikamu North in Luwero district has petitioned parliament over the delays on the Luwero-Kiwoko-Butalangu road after traders informed him that the delayed works have significantly impacted their businesses.
In a letter seen by this publication written by Sekabira to the Speaker of parliament, despite the completion date of the project set for 16th August 2026, they’re no signs that the work will be expedited several sections of the road still closed and incomplete.
“Rt. Hon. Speaker, specifically the section between Kiwoko and Luwero Don-fuel station has been closed by the contractor for now one full year hence no access to motorists”-reads part of the letter by Sekabira.
