Police have arrested a 24-year-old suspect accused of killing a boda boda rider in Kiboga District before fleeing with the victim's motorcycle. The suspect was tracked to Kampala after allegedly crashing the stolen motorcycle, leading to his arrest and return to Kiboga to face murder and aggravated robbery charges.
A 24-year-old man suspected of murdering a boda boda rider in Kiboga District and stealing his motorcycle has been arrested in Kampala and returned to Kiboga to face trial.
The suspect, identified as Everest Tusiime, a resident of Namusera in Wakiso District, was arrested in Kasubi after he was allegedly involved in a road accident while riding the stolen motorcycle.
According to Police, the incident occurred at around 10:45pm on July 10, 2026, when Tusiime allegedly hired Aaron Sserwada, 40, a boda boda rider operating from Kijojolo Boda Boda Stage in Bukomero Town Council, to transport him to Kakunyu D Cell in Kakunyu Ward.
Police allege that after travelling about one kilometre from the stage, the suspect attacked Sserwada in a dark section of a coffee plantation, stabbing him in the back and neck before fleeing with the victim's red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UMA 806BN.
A report was immediately made to Police, who responded to the scene and launched investigations.
"The scene was processed, statements were recorded, and the body of the deceased was conveyed to Kiboga Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. A blood-stained knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered from the scene," Wamala Regional Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi said.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect rode the stolen motorcycle towards Kampala, prompting Police to circulate details of the motorcycle, including its registration number, make and colour, to security stations along the route.
The suspect's escape came to an end when he was reportedly involved in a road accident in Kasubi while riding the stolen motorcycle. Police said the accident claimed the life of an unidentified passenger who was travelling with him.
"Fortunately, the suspect was arrested in Kasubi after getting involved in an accident. The stolen motorcycle was recovered, and the suspect, who sustained injuries, was later handed over to Kiboga Police from Mulago Hospital together with the recovered exhibit," Kigozi said.
Police said Tusiime is now in custody and will face charges of aggravated robbery and murder.
"I wish to inform the people of Bukomero Town Council that the suspected killer of Sserwada Aaron is now in the hands of Kiboga Police. We appeal to the boda boda rider community to remain calm as justice will be pursued through the courts of law," Kigozi said.
He also urged boda boda riders to exercise caution, especially when transporting unfamiliar passengers at night.
"We advise boda boda riders to be vigilant and take extra precautions when carrying passengers they do not know, especially during late hours," he added.
Police said investigations into the case are ongoing.
