KAMPALA – Uganda’s political landscape is set for a major shake-up after the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) announced that the National Unity Platform (NUP) will officially join the Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD).
NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong revealed that NUP had fulfilled all the requirements for admission and would soon be formally welcomed onto the country’s premier inter-party dialogue platform.
The development marks a dramatic shift for the opposition party, which has for years refused to participate in IPOD, insisting it could not sit at the same dialogue table with President Yoweri Museveni, who chairs the forum.

NUP’s entry is expected to end one of Uganda’s longest-running political standoffs over structured dialogue between the ruling party and the opposition.
IPOD brings together political parties represented in Parliament to discuss national governance, electoral reforms, democracy, peace, and other issues of national importance.
While Todwong did not specify the date for the formal induction, the announcement signals a potentially new chapter in engagement between Uganda’s largest opposition party and the government, with political observers expected to closely watch how the relationship unfolds.
