National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President for Central Uganda, Muwanga Kivumbi, has declared that his seven months in prison only made him stronger and more determined, saying he is no longer afraid of arrest or detention.Speaking shortly after being granted bail by the International Crimes Division of the High Court, Kivumbi said prison transformed his outlook on life and politics, giving him renewed courage to continue his political activities.
“The moment you spend time in prison, you either come out scared or come out with renewed strength and vision. For me, it made me stronger,” Kivumbi said during an interview with CBS FM.He added that prison no longer frightens him, insisting that detention cannot stop him from pursuing what he believes in.
Following his release, Kivumbi was welcomed by hundreds of supporters in Butambala, where he vowed to continue advocating for political change despite the challenges he has faced. However, his freedom was short-lived. Reports indicate that security officers re-arrested him in Mpigi District while he was travelling to Kampala, less than a day after securing bail.
Kivumbi had spent nearly seven months in detention after being charged with treason alongside several co-accused persons. He denies the allegations. His re-arrest has reignited political debate, with supporters praising his resilience while authorities maintain that all security operations are conducted within the law
