Respecting The Katikkiro Doesn’t Mean We Must Agree With Everything He Says” – Gen Muhoozi’s Aide Daudi Kabanda Fires Back

Daudi Kabanda, Executive Assistant to the National Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has said that while the organization deeply respects Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga, it reserves the right to disagree with some of his views.

Speaking at a press conference in Kampala, Kabanda responded to the Katikkiro’s reported remarks opposing the prosecution or imprisonment of individuals over speech-related offences in a democratic society.

Kabanda described Mayiga as a respected leader and role model but stressed that respect should not be confused with unquestioning agreement.

“Respecting someone does not mean accepting every opinion they express,” Kabanda said, adding that democratic societies thrive on debate and differing viewpoints.

Speaking on behalf of PLU Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Kabanda argued that freedom of expression must be exercised responsibly and should not be used to justify hate speech, incitement to violence, or statements that threaten public safety.

He maintained that while free speech is a constitutional right, governments also have a duty to protect citizens from harmful communication that could endanger peace and national unity.

Kabanda emphasized that disagreeing with the Katikkiro on matters of public policy does not amount to disrespect, but rather reflects healthy democratic engagement.

He concluded by reaffirming PLU’s respect for Mayiga while insisting that leaders and citizens alike should remain open to criticism and alternative perspectives on national issues.
