Police identified the deceased as Kasakya Abdallah, 68, the driver of the Isuzu bus registration UA 551ED, owned by Amuria High School. The bus was transporting 73 students from St. Paul Secondary School in Katakwi District to Kasenyi Landing Site in Entebbe for a geography study tour.
A bus driver was killed and 15 people injured after a school bus carrying students for a geography tour rammed into a stationary trailer along the Mbale–Iganga Highway in Bugweri District.
According to Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha, the crash occurred at about 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday in Nawangisa Village.
Police identified the deceased as Kasakya Abdallah, 68, the driver of the Isuzu bus registration UA 551ED, owned by Amuria High School. The bus was transporting 73 students from St. Paul Secondary School in Katakwi District to Kasenyi Landing Site in Entebbe for a geography study tour.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the bus, which was travelling from Mbale towards Entebbe, collided with the rear of a stationary Mercedes Benz Actros trailer, registration UBB 269V, at Nawangisa Village.
The driver died instantly, while 15 occupants, including 13 students, a teacher and the bus conductor, sustained injuries.

The injured students have been identified as Iraat Joseph, Obweikal Emmanuel, Opio Samuel Martin, Ingirot John Martin, Emodit Simon, Aanyu Samuel, Oumo Jeremiah, Okurut Silver, Alibet Isaac, Oila Samuel, Okot Timothy, Ocen John Mark and Nyasurura Perez. Also injured were teacher Oluga George and the bus conductor, whose identity had not yet been established.
A team of traffic officers led by the Regional Traffic Officer visited the scene to document the crash and commence investigations.
Kasadha said that the deceased’s body was taken to Iganga Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination, while the injured victims were rushed to Iganga General Hospital for treatment.
He added that both the bus and the trailer have been towed to Busembatya Police Station pending mechanical inspection as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
He asked motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads, especially during early morning travel, to help prevent similar tragedies.
