Media personality Frank Gashumba has sparked debate after claiming that he pays more than UGX 3.6 billion in taxes every year.
Speaking during an interview with a local radio station, Gashumba described himself as one of Uganda's biggest taxpayers and expressed frustration over what he alleged is the misuse of public funds.
"I feel so much pain whenever I see people stealing taxpayers' money. I personally pay over UGX 3.6 billion in taxes every year, but all that money is stolen," he partly explained.
Gashumba called on the government to intensify its fight against corruption, urging the Minister of Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, to remain firm in dealing with public officials accused of embezzling government funds.
"Balaam, don't show mercy to anyone involved in corruption in the different districts. Go after them and clean up the mess because it is too much for us taxpayers," he added.
His remarks come as Minister of Local Government Balaam Barugahara and State Minister Justin Nameere are touring several districts in Eastern Uganda as part of an anti-corruption campaign.
