Church of Uganda Announces 2027 Theme as Seven Bishops, Including Archbishop Kaziimba, Prepare for Retirement

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has announced the Church’s theme for 2027 as “Focused Leadership and Integrity in Service”, drawn from 1 Corinthians 4:1–2.

The announcement was made during a meeting of the Church of Uganda Board of Trustees (Bishops) held at Nabugabo Holiday Centre in Masaka District.

Archbishop Kaziimba said the theme will guide the Church’s ministry and leadership focus in 2027, emphasizing responsible leadership, faithfulness, and integrity in serving God and communities.

During the meeting, the Archbishop also informed the Trustees about the retirement of several bishops scheduled for 2027.

The bishops set to retire include:

Rt Rev. John Wilson Nandaah — Bishop of Mbale Diocese

Rt Rev. Amos Magezi — Bishop of North West Ankole Diocese

Rt Rev. Patrick Wakula — Bishop of Central Busoga Diocese

Rt Rev. Dan Zoreka — Bishop of Kinkizi Diocese

Rt Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna — Bishop of Kigezi Diocese

The Most Rev. Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu — Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala Diocese

Rt Rev. Assoc. Prof. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa — Bishop of Ankole Diocese

The Church will also hold an election for the bishop of the diocese from which the 10th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda will be selected.

The year 2027 will also mark a significant milestone for the Church of Uganda as it commemorates 150 years of Christianity in Uganda.

During the meeting, the Board of Trustees commended the Church Commissioners Holding Company Limited (CCHCL), the business arm of the Church of Uganda, for transforming Nabugabo Holiday Centre into a modern tourism and conference facility.

The bishops were taken on a guided tour of the facility by CCHCL Group Chief Executive Officer Rev. Canon Dr Jasper Mpirirwe Tumuhimbise, together with architect Steven Kasozi and engineer Richard Mugisa.

The Church said the transformation of Nabugabo Holiday Centre demonstrates its commitment to developing sustainable investments that support ministry, hospitality, and community development.
