Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Norbert Mao has said government will update the nation on the missing National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters after security agencies brief the ministerial committee on human rights.
Mao, who chairs the committee, said the team will meet security forces to establish the fate of people who disappeared after the November 2020 protests, some of whom have never been accounted for, adding: “When security briefs us, we will inform the nation.”
The protests erupted after the arrest of NUP presidential candidate Bobi Wine in Luuka District for violating COVID-19 guidelines. Mao said the riots were driven by Boda Boda 2010, NUP and P10, while also noting that President Museveni told ministers during an IPOD meeting that security had intercepted a phone call between Bobi Wine and a white man.
“Regrettably, some of those arrested have never been seen again. Government has a responsibility to protect all Ugandans,” Mao said.
