Seven Arrested for Coffee Theft in Mityana

Seven people have been arrested in connection with a series of coffee thefts reported in Bulera Sub-county, Mityana District, as police intensify operations against the vice that has hit gardens and homes across the area in May, June and July 2026.

Police say the case began on July 1, 2026, when unknown people stole coffee from the home of 62-year-old Ssemugomba John of Kiwujja Buyambi LC1, Nalumbugu Parish, prompting a report at Bulera Police Station the following day.

According to Wamala Region police spokesperson SSP L. Kigozi, intelligence later identified and arrested Lubowa Bernard, 30, and Kizito Edward, 28, with suspected stolen coffee recovered from Kizito’s home. The two initially denied the allegations but later confessed after being transferred to Mityana Central Police Station and questioned by the Flying Squad. Kigozi said their statements led to the arrest of five more suspects on July 9: Ssemakula Abdul, 58; Malunda Vincent, 20; Kakooza Stephen, 21; Nakigozi Aidah, 58; and Kibirige Edwin, 19.

“We advise perpetrators of the vice of stealing and dealing in stolen coffee to reconsider this activity because a lot of effort is being concentrated by police and sister security agencies in the region on fighting this crime,” Kigozi said, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects still at large.
