Chris Obore, the Parliamentary Director of Communication and Public Affairs, has reportedly expressed frustration and disbelief over the public perception surrounding his name amid ongoing legal troubles. According to former Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, Obore insisted during a conversation at Luzira’s Murchison Bay Prison that he is not a “national thief” and has never stolen public funds.
Nyanjura revealed that she met Obore while visiting former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago. She said Obore appeared deeply troubled by the accusations and repeatedly questioned why many Ugandans now view him as a symbol of corruption.
The remarks quickly sparked debate on social media, with some users sympathizing with Obore while others turned the phrase into a subject of satire and political commentary.
The discussion has also reignited debate about public accountability, reputation, and the principle that every accused person remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.As legal proceedings continue, Obore’s reported comments highlight the personal and public challenges faced by officials caught up in high-profile cases, with many Ugandans closely following developments surrounding the matter.
