Grace Gidudu Obore Named Parliament’s Acting Director of Communication and Public Affairs
The Parliament of Uganda has appointed Ms Grace Gidudu Obore as Acting Director of Communication and Public Affairs.
Ms Obore’s appointment follows the remand of the former Director, Mr. Chris Obore, to prison on charges of embezzlement, causing financial loss to government, and money laundering.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, Parliament announced that Gidudu, who has been serving in the same department as Assistant Director for Media Relations, will take charge in an acting capacity.
“Ms Grace Gidudu has been appointed Acting Director, Communication and Public Affairs,” Parliament said in a statement shared on its official communication platforms.
No further details have been provided regarding the duration of her acting capacity or whether a substantive recruitment process for the position will be undertaken.
Gidudu is a long-serving member of the Parliamentary Service.
Her appointment places her at the helm of the department responsible for Parliament’s communication, media relations, institutional visibility and dissemination of parliamentary information to citizens and stakeholders.
The Communication and Public Affairs department plays a key role in enhancing public understanding of parliamentary processes, supporting access to information and strengthening engagement between legislators and the public.
Gidudu’s appointment comes as Parliament grapples with public trust and transparency issues following the investigations into former Speaker Anita Among over corruption and abuse of office, and the remanding to Prison of 8 senior Parliament officials over embezzlement and money -laundering charges.
