"It is illogical" says Ssenyonyi on claims of opposition using drones to abduct, torture its own supporters
The Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi has described as illogical, the claims that opposition supporters are being abducted using drones and firearms, only to be subsequently held in government prisons and safe houses.
""Is it conceivable that the opposition is employing drones and firearms to abduct its own supporters and subsequently transfer them to government prisons and safe houses?" Ssenyonyi said .
He was responding to a confession by Moses Ssimbwa, a self-proclaimed activist from the National Unity Platform (NUP), who had previously accused the government of subjecting him to torture.
While speaking to the audience during the NRM 38th liberation celebrations in Jinja on Friday, Ssimbwa said he was manipulated by the opposition to make false torture allegations against government.
He confessed that opposition politicians had taken advantage of his vulnerable situation to advance their own agenda.
"Politicians took me to Nairobi and instructed me to claim that I was tortured by the Ugandan government. I apologize for everything that transpired. They exploited us because we were in dire need of money," he said infront of President Museveni.
Ssimbwa clarified that his injuries were actually a result of an accident and not the alleged torture he had previously claimed.
He said that after being in hiding for the past three years, he reached out to Milly Babalanda, the Minister for Presidency, seeking assistance due to deteriorating health conditions resulting from the accident.
Reacting to the claims, President Museveni said government government is aware of the opposition's exploitation of Ugandans for its own malicious motives and self-serving agenda.
"We are fully aware of this deceitful opposition group, and we will expose their true intentions at the appropriate time,"he stated.
