Police Deny Abduction Claims, Say Kabaya Was Arrested in Substance Abuse Operation

Kampala Metropolitan Police has spoken out over the recent arrest of musician Kabaya, real name Joseph Bwogi, noting that he was arrested during security operations.

The KMP spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, in a radio interview, revealed they have been carrying out several operations in and outside Kampala in a bid to fight against crime and substance abuse.

On Tuesday this week, during one of their raids, they rounded up different individuals, including Kabaya, whom they arrested on charges of possession of substances. He was taken to Kumwenda Police Station along Mityana Road but was later released on police bond.

SP Kawala denied the allegations going around that he was abducted, encouraging him to come forward with an official complaint about the alleged torture to enable authorities to investigate the matter further.

“But if he has any complaints about the security officers who he says assaulted him, he should come forward and report officially to help us investigate his claims further,” she said.

Kabaya, however, denied the allegations, distancing himself from substance abuse, insisting that he didn’t commit any crime and that his arrest was purely a political move.

He revealed that the police surrounded him at his home and started beating him up until he lost four of his teeth. The veteran singer noted that he never had any drugs in his home, as he requested justice to be served on the people who he said hurt him, before thanking King Saha for standing in for him.
