Aspirants contesting for Women Council, LC1 and LC2 chairperson positions have been warned against holding campaign rallies ahead of the forthcoming Local Council elections.
The Electoral Commission Commissioner, Steven Tashobya, said campaigns will run from 20th to 27th July and urged candidates to conduct door-to-door campaigns instead of mass rallies. He warned that those who violate the campaign guidelines risk being disqualified.
Tashobya also clarified that a candidate cannot contest for more than one leadership position, such as both LC1 and LC2 chairperson, saying each position should be contested by a different person to allow wider participation.
He said Women Council elections will be held on 23rd July, following the nomination exercise, and encouraged eligible women to participate in the elections.
Tashobya further condemned voter bribery, warning that anyone found buying votes will be disqualified. He urged voters to take part peacefully and fairly, emphasizing the important role Local Council leaders play in community development.
