Muhoozi, South Korean Defence Attaché Discuss UPDF Medical Training
Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has held talks with South Korea’s defence attaché to Uganda, Col Kim Seha, focusing on medical training and expanded military cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting took place on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe.
According to a statement issued by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, Col Kim committed to coordinating opportunities for UPDF officers to undertake medical-related courses in South Korea.
The proposed training is expected to draw on South Korea’s experience in medical technology, hospital management, surgical procedures, biomedical research and battlefield emergency care.
Gen Kainerugaba welcomed the proposed cooperation, describing medical collaboration as a practical extension of the longstanding relationship between Uganda and South Korea.
He also commended the Korean Armed Forces for their professionalism and technological advancement.
The CDF said Uganda was considering opening a permanent diplomatic mission in Seoul as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and support the modernisation of the UPDF.
Col Kim welcomed the proposal, saying the establishment of a Ugandan mission in Seoul would strengthen relations between the two countries.
The talks were also attended by the UPDF Chief of Joint Staff, Lt Gen Jack Bakasumba, and Col Kim’s secretary, Choi Yun-Mi.
The meeting follows discussions held earlier in July between Defence and Veteran Affairs Minister Kiryowa Kiwanuka and the South Korean defence attaché.
During those talks, Kiwanuka undertook to expedite the renewal of the bilateral defence memorandum of understanding and requested continued South Korean support for the UPDF Referral and Teaching Hospital.
South Korea also reaffirmed its commitment to sponsoring UPDF officers for professional military education at the Korea National Defence University and Korea Army College.
