Mariam Wangadya Summoned Over UHRC Money

The Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC), Mariam Wangadya, has been summoned to appear before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to answer queries arising from the Auditor General’s report on the Commission’s finances.

According to a letter dated July 21, 2026, from the Office of the Clerk to Parliament, Wangadya is required to appear before the committee on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Conference Hall A, South Wing, to participate in the consideration of the Auditor General’s report on the Uganda Human Rights Commission for the financial year ended December 31, 2025.

The meeting had initially been scheduled to happen days earlier, according to a July 15 letter but was postponed after Parliament convened a special sitting following the death of Rt. Hon. Gen. Moses Ali. The special sitting coincided with the planned committee meeting, forcing its cancellation.

“Consequently, I have been instructed by the Committee Chairperson to reschedule the meeting to tomorrow Wednesday 22nd July, 2026 at 9:00 AM in Conference Hall A, South to proceed with the consideration of the report of the Auditor General on the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) for the year ended 31st December 2025,” the letter states.

Parliament also directed that the UHRC Accounting Officer attend the meeting together with all members of the Commission.

“By copy of this invitation, the Accounting Officer is hereby notified to attend alongside the Members of the Commission. You are urged to ensure that you attend the meeting in person,” the letter adds.

The Public Accounts Committee is responsible for scrutinising reports of the Auditor General and holding accounting officers and heads of government agencies accountable for the management of public resources.

The summons comes at a time when Wangadya and the Uganda Human Rights Commission have attracted public attention over a number of issues, with Parliament expected to examine the Auditor General’s findings relating to the Commission’s financial management for the 2025 reporting period.

The outcome of the committee’s proceedings could determine whether Parliament recommends corrective administrative measures or further investigations into any financial irregularities identified in the audit report.

It should be remembered that Mariam Wangadya recently resigned her job. Bobi Wine has reminded her the regime uses and dumps while there have also been calls for her to apologize.
