Three Arrested as Police Recover Suspected Stolen Car in Wakiso

Three suspects have been arrested after the Police Flying Squad recovered a suspected stolen vehicle in Wakiso during an intelligence-led operation targeting increasingly sophisticated car theft syndicates.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the operation was launched after a blue Toyota Sienta, registration UBJ 997A, belonging to Kusiima Zuria of Gombe village in Wakiso District, was stolen over the weekend.

According to police, investigators tracked the vehicle through its installed tracker. A signal led them to a parking yard in Matuga, where parts of a dismantled tracking device were recovered. But the second untouched tracker later led the team to another parking yard in Magere, Kasangati, where the vehicle was found.

“The first tracker was removed in Matugga. We tracked it to the point where it had been dismantled, but the suspects missed the second tracker, which led our teams to another garage in Magere where we found the vehicle largely intact, but with a tampered steering system, and plans of changing its look and market for sale.” Owoyesigyire said.

The suspects have been identified as David Mayanja, Bosco Sirisayi, and Juma Ssekandi, who are currently detained by Wakiso Police Station. Police said it has intensified operations to dismantle gangs that steal motor vehicles, alter them in garages, and later sell them or ferry them across to neighbouring countries.
