North Kigezi Bishop Urges Men to Lead Prayerful Lives Worthy of Emulation

Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe has called on men in North Kigezi Diocese to embrace prayer, integrity and responsible leadership, saying their lives should reflect Christ in their families, churches and communities.

The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, has urged men across the Diocese to lead prayerful lives that reflect Christ and serve as examples in their families, the Church and society.

Bishop Asiimwe made the call during the Diocesan Men’s Day of Prayer and Fasting held at the Emmanuel Cathedral Consecration Site in Kinyasano, Rukungiri District.

The gathering was organised as part of the Diocese’s wider mission to promote corporate prayer and healing services across churches in a bid to strengthen spiritual revival.

The Bishop expressed concern over rising cases of alcoholism, sexual immorality and prostitution, saying the behaviours have negatively affected families and contributed to the spread of HIV.

However, he said the strong turnout of men at the prayer gathering was a sign of hope that God was bringing healing and restoration to the Diocese and the wider district.

Preaching from 1 Corinthians 11:1, Bishop Asiimwe challenged men to become role models whose conduct reflects the teachings of Jesus Christ.

He encouraged them to lead by example in their homes, love and care for their wives faithfully, avoid wasting resources on destructive behaviours and embrace productive activities such as coffee growing to improve household incomes.

Drawing lessons from the story of Lazarus in John 11, the Bishop said Christian men should live lives that inspire others to seek Christ through their actions and testimony.

“God has called men to be examples in their homes and communities. Let your life reflect Christ, lead your family faithfully, and become a testimony that draws others to Him,” he said.

The guest speaker, Provincial Fathers’ Union President Lay Canon Samuel Bakutana, challenged men to remain connected to God, saying they were created to be caretakers, protectors and spiritual leaders in their families.

Preaching from 2 Thessalonians 3:1–18, Canon Bakutana encouraged men to work diligently, reject laziness and make choices that honour God.

He urged men to become committed followers of Christ whose lives can be observed and emulated by their children and communities.

“Your children should learn Christ by watching your life. Put God first, love your family, work diligently, and let your conduct become an example worthy of emulation,” he said.

Canon Bakutana further encouraged men to prioritise their relationship with God, spouses and children ahead of career pursuits.

He called on fathers to take an active role in their families and urged men living in cohabitation to formalise their marriages.

The prayer event concluded with 40 men reportedly committing their lives to Jesus Christ and accepting Him as their personal Lord and Saviour.
