MP Mariam Seif Leads Massive Cleanup Drive in Iganga During National Cleaning Program
IGANGA – Iganga District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Mariam Seif on Saturday led a massive cleanup campaign across Iganga as the country observed the National Cleaning Program, calling on residents to embrace cleanliness as a continuous responsibility.
The legislator joined local leaders, security agencies, traders, and residents in cleaning streets and public spaces, saying the initiative is key to improving public health and protecting communities from preventable diseases.
Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Seif said maintaining a clean environment would significantly reduce diseases associated with poor hygiene and sanitation, thereby easing the burden on Uganda’s healthcare system.
“This program will provide Ugandans with a safe and clean environment. If we maintain proper hygiene, the country will reduce the money it spends treating diseases caused by poor sanitation. I encourage my people not to stop with today’s exercise but to make cleanliness part of their daily lives,” she said.
The Woman MP also pledged to continue lobbying for programs and development initiatives that promote proper sanitation, environmental conservation, and improved hygiene standards within communities.
She urged residents, business owners, schools, and institutions to work together in keeping Iganga clean, saying sustainable sanitation can only be achieved through collective community effort.
The National Cleaning Program, which was observed across Uganda on Saturday morning, brought together government leaders, security agencies, local authorities, and citizens in a nationwide effort to improve sanitation and create healthier communities. Hon. Seif described the exercise as a step toward building a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous Uganda.
