16-Year-Old Pupil Stabbed to Death by Unknown Assailants in Rubanda

Police in Rubanda District have launched a murder investigation following the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old pupil who was attacked while returning home after buying household items.

The deceased, Pamella Kyomuhendo, was a pupil at Rugarama Mixed Primary School and a resident of Kitungu Village, Nyamiyaga Ward in Bubare Town Council.

According to preliminary police findings, Kyomuhendo left her home at about 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday to buy household necessities from a nearby trading centre. While walking back home, she was allegedly followed by unknown assailants who attacked her about 500 metres from her residence.

The attackers reportedly stabbed her several times with a sharp object, leaving her with severe injuries.

Her screams for help attracted nearby residents, but by the time they reached the scene, the attackers had fled.

Kyomuhendo was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries and excessive bleeding on Thursday morning.

Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime confirmed the incident, saying detectives have launched investigations to establish the identities of the attackers and the motive behind the killing.

“We have commenced investigations into the murder, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible,” Tumushime said.

He appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify or locate the suspects to report to the nearest police station.

“We urge anyone with information that may assist the investigations to come forward so that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he added.
