Can Die Any Time” — Lukwago Breaks Down in Court, Begs for Emergency Transfer to Mulago
Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has reportedly made an emotional appeal in court, asking to be transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital after saying his health had deteriorated and he was struggling to breathe.
According to reports from the court proceedings, Lukwago told the court he urgently needed specialised medical attention, warning that his condition could become life-threatening if left untreated.“Please at least take me to Mulago to save my life. I can’t breathe well and I can die any time,” Lukwago reportedly pleaded.Lukwago, who is facing charges of misprision of treason, has maintained his innocence since his arrest in June 2026.
His detention has drawn criticism from opposition supporters and human rights advocates, who argue that he should be granted proper medical care.His legal team and supporters continue to push for his transfer to Mulago Hospital, while authorities have not yet publicly indicated whether the request will be granted. The case remains before the courts and continues to attract widespread public attention.
