Solomon Serwanjja has been elected chairperson of Bamutakudde village after defeating his closest rival by a single vote in one of the closest village elections in the area.

Results announced after the vote count showed Serwanjja polling 106 votes, narrowly beating National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Lule Badru, who garnered 105 votes.

The razor-thin margin underscored the significance of every ballot cast, with a single vote deciding the outcome of the election.

The contest attracted significant interest from residents, who turned out to elect the village chairperson responsible for overseeing local governance and representing the community on issues of service delivery and development.

Earlier, voting was briefly disrupted after some residents alleged that one of the candidates had ferried in relatives who are not residents of Bamutakudde to participate in the election.

The allegations created tension at the polling station, but voting and the subsequent vote-counting process proceeded without further disruption.

By the time the results were announced, electoral officials had not communicated any findings regarding the allegations.

Serwanjja was subsequently declared the winner, ending a closely fought race that reflected the sharply divided support among voters in the village.

He now takes over the leadership of Bamutakudde village, with residents looking to the new administration to address local priorities and improve service delivery.
