Two Killed in Buwenge LC1 Election Violence as Protesters Block Jinja–Kamuli Road

Two people have reportedly been shot dead by security forces in Buwenge Town Council, Jinja District, following violence linked to the ongoing Local Council One (LC1) elections, triggering protests that led to the closure of the Jinja–Kamuli Road.

The deceased have been identified as Kalulu Fred, 19, who reportedly died on the spot after being shot, and Ikali, also known as Lika Wise, who succumbed to his injuries at Jinja Hospital.

The shooting sparked anger among residents, who took to the streets and blocked the busy Jinja–Kamuli Road, disrupting traffic as they demanded justice over the deaths.

The circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear, although the incident is said to have occurred amid election-related violence during the LC1 polls.

Security personnel were deployed to the area to disperse protesters and restore normal traffic flow, while tension remained high in the town council.

Police and other security agencies had not yet issued an official statement on the incident or confirmed the circumstances surrounding the deaths by the time of publication.

The violence is among several election-related incidents reported across different parts of the country as Ugandans elect village Local Council One leaders. Authorities are expected to investigate the shooting and establish the events that led to the loss of life.
