Bushenyi: Church of Uganda Cleric Remanded Over Alleged Defilement of 15-Year-Old Pupil
The Church of Uganda Priest has been remanded to prison by the Bushenyi Chief Magistrates Court over allegations of defiling a 15-year-old pupil in Bushenyi District.
Rev. Michael Atwebembeire, 53, a senior cleric in West Ankole Diocese and Parish Priest at Kabushaho Anglican Church, appeared before Magistrate Emmanuel Niyokwizera on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The court heard that Rev. Atwebembeire is accused of defiling a 15-year-old girl who was a pupil at Kabushaho Primary School.
Magistrate Niyokwizera remanded the suspect until September 7, 2026, to allow police to complete investigations into the matter.
The case remains under investigation, and no plea was taken as the offence is capital in nature and can only be tried by the High Court.
