JUST IN: NUP’s Kivumbi Faces Fresh Charges, Remanded

National Unity President (NUP) deputy President Muhammed Muwanga Kivumbi who had been missing for 19 days owing to his abduction on 10th July few hours after being granted bail by the International Crimes Division Judge Suzan Okalany with his co-accused.

Prior to his re-arrest on Friday 10th July, Kivumbi had spent 6 months in prison facing charges of terrorism which emanate from chaos that ensued on the polling day on 15th January 2026 where police and the army reined bullets in his home killing 10 people and leaving several others injured.

He enjoyed freedom for only a few hours before being waylaid on his way to Kampala in Mpigi district and has been missing since them until today when unknown people reportedly dumped him at Natete police station where he was again picked and driven to Butambala and charged before a magistrates court for inciting violence and holding an unlawful assembly.

Despite being abducted on camera in an operation which saw the police officers stopping him before armed men in black attires dragged him and bundled him in a waiting Hiace popularly known as Drone on 10th Friday afternoon, Police and Army all denied holding Kivumbi for all these 19 days when his family applied for a habeas corpus.

He has been remanded until 11th August.
