Mufti Urges New Village Chairpersons to Lead With Integrity and Unity

The Mufti of Uganda has congratulated newly elected LC1 chairpersons across the country, urging them to exercise inclusive, fair and peaceful leadership as they begin serving their communities following Tuesday's nationwide village elections.

The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has congratulated newly elected Local Council I (LC1) chairpersons, calling on them to lead with integrity, fairness and a commitment to fostering unity in their communities.

The message was delivered on his behalf by the Second Deputy Mufti, Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, at Bukasa-Kawuku Village in Entebbe.

Addressing journalists, Sheikh Bukenya congratulated all successful candidates and reminded them that leadership is a sacred trust that should be exercised without discrimination.

"On behalf of the Mufti of Uganda, I congratulate all the newly elected LC1 Village Chairpersons across the country. I urge you to serve your communities with integrity, fairness and without discrimination based on ethnicity, tribe, gender, political affiliation or any other differences," he said.

He said effective leadership should unite communities, promote peaceful coexistence and put the welfare of all residents above personal or political interests.

"Leadership is a trust. It should be used to bring people together, strengthen unity and foster peace within our communities," Sheikh Bukenya added.

The nationwide LC1 elections, held on Tuesday following the declaration of a public holiday by the government, were largely peaceful across much of the country.

However, reports from some areas indicated that disputes over the electoral process turned violent, leaving several people injured.

Despite the isolated incidents, the Mufti urged the newly elected leaders to promote reconciliation and community development, encouraging them to serve all residents impartially as they begin their terms in office.
