Minister Babalanda Unveils Science Kits In Buyende, Says They Will Shape Uganda’s Next Generation Of Innovators

Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, the Minister for the Presidency and Woman MP for Budiope West, has commissioned a new batch of science kits for government schools in Buyende District, describing the initiative as a major step towards improving the quality of science education and preparing learners for the future.

The commissioning ceremony, attended by district leaders and education officials, marked the official handover of the equipment donated by the Ministry of Education and Sports. The kits are expected to strengthen practical learning in science subjects and improve classroom experiences for thousands of students.

While addressing the gathering, Babalanda said science education plays a vital role in Uganda’s development because it equips young people with the knowledge and practical skills needed to solve real-life challenges. She noted that access to laboratory equipment will help learners better understand what they study in class.

She explained that the science kits will allow students to carry out experiments instead of relying only on textbooks, making lessons more engaging and increasing their interest in science-related careers. According to the minister, this approach will also improve academic performance and prepare learners for opportunities in the modern job market.

Babalanda applauded the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, for championing initiatives aimed at improving education standards across the country. She also praised officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports for ensuring the successful implementation of the programme.

The minister called on district education officers, head teachers and science teachers to safeguard the equipment and ensure it is used for its intended purpose. She stressed that proper use of the kits will help nurture future scientists, engineers, doctors and innovators who will contribute to Uganda’s growth.

Leaders in Buyende welcomed the support and pledged to closely monitor the use of the science kits to ensure they directly benefit learners. They expressed confidence that the equipment would improve science teaching and inspire more students to pursue scientific careers.

The donation forms part of the Ministry of Education and Sports’ nationwide effort to equip government schools with practical learning materials. The initiative is expected to strengthen science education across Uganda while supporting the country’s long-term goal of building a skilled and innovative workforce.
