Pressure Mounts Over Alleged Push to Dismiss Interdicted Works Ministry Officials Before Investigations End

KAMPALA – Fresh allegations have emerged suggesting that senior officials in the Ministry of Works and Transport are under pressure to expedite the dismissal of six interdicted officials before investigations into alleged corruption are concluded.

According to information obtained by The Ankole Times from sources within the ministry, the Minister of State for Works, Fred Byamukama, is allegedly pressuring the Permanent Secretary to sign dismissal letters for the interdicted officials despite the ongoing investigations.

The source further claims that the Permanent Secretary is facing pressure from a group of ministry officials who reportedly celebrated the anticipated dismissal of the six officers on Friday night, even though no final investigative findings have been made public.

The allegations have sparked concern among members of the public, with some questioning why the dismissal process would be accelerated before due process has been completed.

One concerned citizen, identified only as Edgar, urged the Permanent Secretary to exercise caution before making any decisions.

“As a concerned Ugandan, I would like to advise the Permanent Secretary to go slow in signing those letters. The politicians pushing you today may change their position when things go wrong. Remember, you are a technical officer who should carefully evaluate every document before signing it,” Edgar said.

In a separate development, residents of Kakumiro District have raised questions over the alleged presence of government road equipment at property linked to Minister Fred Byamukama.

According to the residents, a unit of road equipment has allegedly been stationed at the minister’s farm for more than a year, where it was reportedly used for bush clearing at his land in Kikwaya and his farm in Kyakatera. They further allege that the same equipment was later deployed to open roads in Kijangi during his political campaigns.

The residents have called on the relevant authorities to investigate the matter, saying government equipment should be used strictly for public purposes.

When contacted for a comment, Minister Fred Byamukama reportedly answered the journalist’s phone call but allegedly ended the call shortly after the reporter introduced himself.
