Bedridden Candidate Wins LC1 Seat After Voting from Hospital Bed in Mityana

candidate who sustained injuries in a road accident during the Local Council I (LCI) election campaign has won the village chairperson seat in Mityana District after casting his vote from a hospital bed.

Emanuel Sakoosi, who contested for the LC I chairperson position in Busimbi Village, Kasimbi Parish, was declared the winner after voters rallied behind him despite the challenges he faced during the campaign period.

The conclusion of the LC I elections acrossUganda was largely peaceful, although some areas experienced isolated disruptions. However, Sakoosi’s victory stood out as one of the most remarkable moments from Mityana District.

Sakoosi was involved in a road accident while campaigning for the LC I chairperson seat and remained hospitalised as the electoral process continued. Despite his injuries, he remained committed to participating in the election.

On nomination day, Sakoosi was transported by ambulance from Mulago National Referral Hospital to complete his nomination before returning for medical treatment.

On polling day, he was again taken to the voting venue on a hospital bed, allowing him to cast his ballot and participate in the democratic process.

His determination inspired voters, who turned up in large numbers to support him, eventually electing him as the new LC I chairperson of Busimbi Village.

Speaking after learning of his victory, Sakoosi thanked residents for the confidence they placed in him despite the difficulties he experienced during the campaign.

“I am deeply humbled by the trust the people of Busimbi have shown in me. Their support has given me hope and strength during this difficult period. I will dedicate myself to serving every resident and fulfilling the promises I made during the campaign,” Sakoosi said.

He pledged to focus on improving service delivery, promoting community development and strengthening unity among residents.

“This victory is a reminder that leadership is about commitment and service. I will work with everyone in the village to improve our community and ensure that no one is left behind,” he added.

Residents described Sakoosi’s victory as a reflection of their confidence in his leadership and resilience, saying his determination to participate in the election despite his condition demonstrated his commitment to serving the community.

His election has become one of the most inspiring stories from the recently concluded LC I elections in Mityana District, highlighting resilience, determination and the power of community support.
