Two Arrested After Land Dispute in Luweero

The Territorial Police in Luweero District are investigating allegations of malicious damage to property, theft and abduction following a reported land dispute in Nkondo Village, Luweero Town Council.

The incident reportedly occurred on July 31, 2026, at around 11:00am on a four-acre piece of land that the complainants said they purchased in May 2025.

According to Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twiineamazima, two men identified as Jimmy Kibirige and Fred Lukenge allegedly arrived at the property accompanied by several individuals, including people dressed in military uniforms.

Twiineamazima said the group reportedly travelled in two unmarked vehicles and was allegedly armed.

"While on the property, the suspects allegedly demolished a one-room permanent house that was being used by workers and destroyed several crops, including coffee, cassava, bananas and sweet potatoes," Twiineamazima said.

He added that the group allegedly uprooted trees, destroyed a barbed-wire fence and took away several building materials, including iron sheets, doors, windows, timber and cement.

"Four sheep were also reportedly taken from the property during the incident," he said.

The complainants further alleged that the group forcefully removed workers from the site and bundled them into the unmarked vehicles.

"Several workers were reportedly abducted from the scene, and some remain missing. Their whereabouts are currently unknown," Twiineamazima said.

Police responded after receiving a report later that day and visited the scene. Two suspects were arrested and are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

Twiineamazima said police are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, trace the missing workers and recover the allegedly stolen property.

"The matter remains under active investigation. We appeal to anyone with information regarding the incident, the whereabouts of the missing persons or the location of the stolen property to come forward and assist police with the inquiries," he said.

Police have assured the public that investigations into the alleged incident are ongoing and that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
