Private Security Guard on the Run After Shooting Boda-Boda Rider in Kabale

A 26-year-old private security guard attached to Uganda Securiko Company is on the run after allegedly shooting and injuring a boda-boda rider at a fuel station in Kabale Municipality.

The suspect, identified as Emmanuel Akanyijuka, a resident of Rushumo Village, Ntarabana Parish in Buhara Sub-county, Kabale District, allegedly opened fire on Tuesday while on duty at First Service Fuel Station in Nyakojumba, Southern Division.

The victim, Davis Niwamanya, 30, a boda-boda rider from Nyarukonkorome Village, Rushaki Ward in Southern Division, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.

According to an eyewitness, Peter Tumushabe, Akanyijuka confronted Niwamanya under circumstances that are still under investigation. During the altercation, the guard allegedly cocked his firearm and shot the rider before fleeing the scene.

Nelson Tumushiime, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying Niwamanya was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, where he is receiving treatment

.Tumushiime condemned the misuse of firearms by security personnel, stressing that unlawful possession or use of a firearm is a criminal offence. He urged the public to remain calm, assuring them that police are pursuing the suspect and that he will be brought to justice.

The shooting occurred just a day after another violent incident involving a private security guard in the same area. On Monday night, Everest Ensinikweri, 53, a guard attached to CRUMARK Private Security Company, was attacked while on duty at Harvest Fuel Station, located less than a kilometre from First Service Fuel Station.
