Four Arrested, Firearm Recovered as Police Make Breakthrough in Multiple Armed Robberies in Entebbe

Police in Kampala have made a breakthrough in investigations into a series of aggravated robbery cases reported between June and August 2026, following the arrest of four suspects believed to be part of an armed criminal gang.

According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation involving the Kampala Metropolitan South Regional Police Command and Jinja City Police after investigators linked them to several robbery incidents across Kampala Metropolitan, Eastern Uganda and the Albertine region.

He said investigations by Entebbe Police Division established that two aggravated robberies committed on June 1 and August 3, 2026, were carried out by the same criminal group.

The first incident occurred at Buyinja Trading Centre, Nkumba Ward, Katabi Town Council in Wakiso District, where three armed men, including one dressed in military attire, attacked a sales manager of a distribution company.

Police said the suspects fired two shots into the air, assaulted the victim and escaped with approximately Shs24 million on a motorcycle.

“Scene investigators recovered two cartridges, and further investigations linked the firearm used in the robbery to five previous robberies within Kampala Metropolitan and four others outside the region,” Owoyesigyire said.

The gang is also accused of carrying out another robbery on August 3, 2026, at Kasenyi, Bendegere Village, where they allegedly attacked a shop during the offloading of goods from a truck.

According to police, the suspects fired one shot, threatened the cashier with a knife, stole cash and fled on a motorcycle.

“Investigations enabled investigators to identify and trace the motorcycle used in the robbery. A joint operation coordinated by the Regional Police Commander Kampala Metropolitan South and the DPC Jinja City intercepted the suspects in Ngogwe, Buikwe District, as they attempted to return to Kampala,” he said.

Owoyesigyire added that the suspects confessed to the two robberies and admitted involvement in several other criminal activities across Kampala Metropolitan, Eastern Uganda and the Albertine region.

During follow-up operations, the suspects reportedly led detectives to Ngando Village in Mukono District, where police recovered a rifle loaded with 15 rounds of live ammunition.

“The suspects remain in custody pending scene reconstruction and court proceedings, while efforts continue to arrest other members of the criminal network."

“Through coordinated operations, we have made significant progress in dismantling violent criminal gangs involved in aggravated robberies. We remain committed to using intelligence-led approaches and strong inter-agency coordination to protect the public,” Owoyesigyire said.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and share information with security authorities to help prevent crime.

“We call upon the public to promptly report suspicious persons or activities and continue supporting police with timely information that can help us prevent and combat crime,” ASP Owoyesigyire added.

The four suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
