The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, together with the State Minister for Planning, Amos Lugoloobi, has challenged staff of the Accountant General’s Office to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and accuracy in the management of public resources, underscoring the Treasury’s central role in supporting Uganda’s economic transformation agenda.

The ministers made the call during an engagement with Treasury staff led by the Acting Accountant General, Godfrey Semugoma, Acting Director of Treasury Services and Assets Management, Steven Ojiambo, and heads of departments.

The engagement comes as the government intensifies efforts to strengthen public financial management, enhance fiscal discipline and improve accountability to support the implementation of Uganda’s Ten-Fold Growth Strategy and its ambition of building a US$500 billion economy.

Treasury leadership briefed the ministers on the Office’s mandate, achievements, strategic priorities and operational challenges, while reaffirming its commitment to delivering efficient and accountable public financial management.

Musasizi commended Treasury staff for their dedication and professionalism in ensuring the timely, accurate and accountable management of public funds. He noted that the credibility of government financial statements and accountability outcomes largely depends on the quality of work undertaken by the Treasury.

He expressed confidence that, through teamwork, professionalism and prudent financial management, the Ministry would continue advancing transparency, accountability and responsible stewardship of public resources while supporting Uganda’s broader economic growth agenda.

Semugoma welcomed the ministers’ engagement with Treasury staff, describing it as a demonstration of their recognition of the critical role a strong Treasury plays in safeguarding public resources, maintaining macroeconomic stability, strengthening investor confidence and improving public service delivery.

He highlighted the Office’s achievements during the 2025/26 financial year despite a challenging fiscal environment. These included processing nearly all valid government invoices, settling valid year-end obligations before the close of the financial year, clearing outstanding obligations to the Bank of Uganda, and maintaining healthy cash balances in the Uganda Consolidated Fund.

The engagement concluded with a shared commitment to build a modern, professional, digitally enabled and accountable Treasury capable of supporting Uganda’s economic transformation agenda through sound public financial management.
