Burundian National Arrested After Employer Is Hacked to Death Over Shs 30,000

A Burundian casual labourer has been arrested after allegedly hacking his employer to death in Kyomya Sub-county, Kiboga District, following a dispute over an alleged unpaid wage of Shs 30,000.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening in Kyomya Village. The suspect, identified by police as Fabulisi, a Burundian national currently detained at Bukomero Police Station, is accused of attacking his employer, Golooba Akiram, 22, while the deceased was preparing logs with his wife, Nagawa Gloria, for charcoal burning.

According to Nagawa, the suspect allegedly drew a panga and charged at the victim while demanding payment, shouting in Luganda, “Bw’otampa sente zange, nkutema,” loosely translated as, “If you don’t give me my money, I will cut you.”

Police say the suspect allegedly struck the victim twice on the neck, leaving him with fatal injuries. The deceased reportedly collapsed and bled profusely.

After the attack, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim’s wife and dragged her toward the home of the village chairperson while continuing to demand payment.

The newly elected Kyomya B Local Council I Chairperson, Muwonge Sulaiman, reported the incident to Kyomya Sub-county Police Station, which later referred the case to Bukomero Police Station. Detectives and Scene of Crime officers were dispatched to investigate.

Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi said officers found the victim’s body lying face down in a pool of blood, about 15 metres from the primary crime scene. A panga suspected to have been used in the attack and bearing what appeared to be dried blood stains was recovered as an exhibit.

“The Scene of Crime officers and homicide detectives documented the scene, and investigations into the murder are ongoing under Bukomero CRB 142/2026,” SSP Kigozi said.

He added that preliminary investigations indicate the suspect had worked as a casual labourer for the deceased and had lived in the village for about one year.

Police said the suspect remains in custody pending further investigations.

SSP Kigozi urged members of the public to exercise caution when employing casual workers, encouraging employers and local leaders to know the backgrounds of people they engage for work.
