LUGAZI, Buikwe — Police in the Ssezibwa Region have launched an operation targeting Subaru vehicles fitted with modified exhaust systems that produce loud “pop and bang” sounds, following persistent complaints from residents of Lugazi Municipality.

The crackdown comes after residents raised concerns with the Buikwe Resident District Commissioner, Maj. David Matovu, over excessive nighttime noise caused by vehicles fitted with modified exhaust systems.

Residents say the loud exhaust sounds, particularly at night, have been disrupting their sleep and creating a nuisance in several parts of the municipality.

Police said the operation is aimed at restoring public order and ensuring that motorists comply with traffic regulations governing vehicle modifications and roadworthiness.

The operation will target vehicles found using exhaust systems that generate excessive noise, with police warning motorists against modifications that violate traffic regulations or disturb the public.

Authorities have urged vehicle owners to ensure that their cars comply with traffic and safety requirements, as the crackdown continues across the Ssezibwa Region.

The operation is expected to continue as police respond to growing concerns over noise pollution and other forms of public disturbance in Lugazi Municipality.
