Besigye’s Sister Moves into Luzira Prison to Provide Him 24-hour Medical Care
Kizza Besigye in ICU
Dr Olive Kobusingye, the sister of jailed veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye, has moved into his cell at Luzira Maximum Security Prison to provide him with medical care.
This is according to a message shared by Besigye’s family.
The message reads that Kobusingye is “now residing in prison, actually staying in the same cell with KB to provide round-the-clock medical care.”
Kobusingye has been permitted to remain with her brother since Friday when he was returned to Luzira from Mulago National Referral Hospital where he was receiving treatment after collapsing in court.
Besigye’s wife Winnie Byanyima said that her husband was removed from Mulago’s High Dependency Unit shortly after 7pm — hours after Minister of Health Chris Baryomunsi visited him.
Family said that Besigye was taken from the hospital “against the advice of doctors from both Mulago and Luzira.
Besigye’s family has for months pressed to have him examined and managed by his own physician rather than government-appointed medical personnel.
